So She Broke Your Heart.......A tongue in cheek look at breaking up.

You thought that everything was going along smoothly, until your girlfriend comes home one day and tells you she needs to talk to you, now, tonight. "It's not you darling, I've changed. I just need some space". she tells you with tears in her eyes. Opps! Panic, you know what that means. She wants out, it's all over, and your world is plunged into darkness. That night you sleep on the couch, after all she needs space and you never know, things may be different in the morning. The next day she phones you at the office to tell you she going to stay at her friends house (her Hot Sexy Single Friend's House!) and that she has already got her things. So much for it being better in the morning. She could have a least gone to stay with her old Aunt, you know the one who wears baggy stockings and has a wart on her face. The day drags on and you work in a haze. You drink too much coffee and when you go to lunch, everywhere you look you see happy couples. The only person who even notices you is the bag lady in the park. She looks sad and there is a fleeting moment of empathy when your eyes meet. That night you go home and the house is empty. No sound or smell of dinner cooking tonight. No sound of her dancing round the kitchen, with the radio turned up loud, no glass of wine to relax with after a hard day. You find some frozen diet meals in the fridge which you nuke in the microwave, the cardboard tastes better, so your meal ends up in the trash, you're not hungry anyway. You sit down and watch Television, anything will do, anything to take your mind off her. You fall asleep and when you wake up, for just a moment, you forget, and everything is ok. Then the realization that she's gone. After much debate with yourself, you decide to phone her, but you get the answer machine. "Jane and Sally are out right now, so please, leave a message and we will get right back to you." "Ah um ah it's me Jane, umm I just called to see how you were, I miss you so much darling, I have to go now I'm too upset to talk......sob, sob, bye sob." She has her name on the machine already. She is out with that Sally, that hot sexy Sally! Oh My God I'm so lonely! Jane and Sally get home just after midnight; they are in a good mood after a few drinks and a lot of dancing. Sally checks her messages. "Oh I don't believe it! Jane, listen to this! The poor guy sounds like a lost dog!" "More like a pathetic wimp if you ask me, the poor thing! why doesn't he go home to his Mummy!" The days go by in a haze; you fall into a pattern, work, sleep, drink, sleep, work, drink. Your mates (remember them) phone you to go out, but after a while they give up, sick of you turning them down. Really you're a complete mess. After weeks of living in a daze you wake up one morning and look at yourself in the mirror. What a sight greets you, bags under your eyes, you haven't shaved for a while and the hair! So you have a shave and a shower and then you feel hungry. time for a big breakfast. When was the last time you had breakfast? After breakfast you decide to go and buy the papers, it's Sunday and the sun is shinning. On the way to the shop you notice the young girl from down the street; she's growing up, turning into a beautiful woman. You smile to yourself, what a wonderful day. Now you're feeling better, you don't know why. You decide to go down to the pub for lunch. Hey all your mates are there and they are glad to see you after all this time. You're glad to see them as well and you wonder to yourself "What have I been doing these last couple of months?" So you spend a pleasant afternoon with your friends and you start to feel like you are a normal person again. You notice, and some of your friends comment, on how much weight you have lost. Nothing like a breakup to lose weight, better than a diet any day. Now that you have lost some weight you decide you might as well go to the gym and try and keep fit for a change, besides you know you feel better, more energy, not so sluggish. Months go by and you really get into your stride. You're enjoying your freedom, doing new things, things that really interest you. You're fit, healthy, and so full of energy and life you're almost dangerous. One night you come home to find Jane sitting on the doorstep. Oh oh! a flutter of the stomach, that fleeting moment of panic, but really you find yourself calm. She looks like a lost child. "Hi Jane, how are you? What a surprise!" you say wondering why she is here. "I'm good thanks, I just thought I would come and see how you were getting on." She looking you over as if she is seeing you for the first time. "I'm great, yeah, feeling fit and healthy." You smile. "You're looking great, you've lost heaps of weight, in fact you look good enough to eat!" "Oh I'm sorry, why don't you come in? Would you like to stay for dinner? I'm cooking Moroccan lamb." "Wow! I didn't know you could cook!" Her eyes wide with wonder. "Well I can now, there are lots of things you don't know about me, I'm not just a pretty face!" So there you are sitting having dinner and drinking wine with Jane, the woman who broke your heart. You notice the fine lines around her eyes, she's looking a bit pale, a bit washed out, nevermind, you have a pleasant evening together. Sitting on the couch after dinner, just relaxing and talking, it's kinda nice, just like old times. "You know I miss you, we had some good times together, you and I." Jane's eyes misting over. "Yes we did, didn't we? You know my life is so different now, and I have to thank you, Jane. I was becomming a bit of a slob, taking you and everything for granted. You know I needed a good kick in the pants so to speak. My life is so much better now, I'm fitter, I feel so much younger. Jane I'm sure we can remain good friends." "Friends? Well OK then, um I was kinda hoping we could be a bit more than just friends." "Oh Jane, I am so sorry, I had no Idea, you know I really have moved on, in fact I'm flying to New York next week. I have a great new job. I really am Sorry! "Oh Well I guess that's the way the cookie crumbles! You will write to me........"?
