League Two Betting Review - 22 January 2006
All three sides in the automatic promotion places busted a few
coupons as not one of them could record a win.
Table-topping Wycombe Wanderers and 15/8 favourites to win
League Two were available at 5/4 to win at bottom-but-four
placed Barnet. The availability to back the Chairboys at
odds-against will have attracted a lot of interest but Barnet
held firm to grind out a point in a goalless draw.
Carlisle United, at 10/11 looked good things to send Cheltenham
Town packing until Kevin Gray put through his own net in
stoppage time to gift the away side an unlikely point.
Grimsby Town, at 6/5 will have also generated a lot of support
against relegation threatened Torquay United. Tony Bedeau's
equaliser two minutes from time claimed a shock result for the
Seagulls and Grimsby remain second favourites at 4/1.
Fourth placed Leyton Orient made up some ground with a 2-1
victory away at Wrexham. Striker Gary Alexander took his goal
tally to 13 after just three minutes and a penalty from Matt
Lockwood was enough to earn his side victory at 9/5.
Northampton Town, so often the cause of many a losing betting
coupon, obliged at 4/5 with a 5-0 demolition of struggling
Macclesfield Town while 5/6 good things Bristol Rovers also did
the business against Chester City.
Two first half goals were enough for 11/10 Notts County to see
off Shrewsbury Town while Darlington recorded a 2-0 win against
Oxford United at odds of 2/1.
The division's bottom two clubs, Stockport County and Rushden &
Diamonds squared off in a "relegation six pointer" at Edgley
Park. Rushden looked set to claim a much needed victory at 23/10
until Liam Dickinson's stoppage time goal ensured a share of the
points for County.
