Prayer -- How to be Confident of Getting What You Asked For

Friend, do you often pray for things but don't know if they will happen for you? To be honest, when you say you don't know if you will get what you prayed for, you are really saying that you have no confidence that you will get what you prayed for. Why do you lack confidence in your prayers? Is it because you don't know God well enough so you don't trust Him? Or is it that you know God, but don't believe he can get the job done? Or is something wrong with you such as you are unworthy or you refuse to give up some sin in your life? A Christian's relationship with God This message is intended for Christians only. My focus is only on Christians and their growth in Jesus Christ. So what is the difference for the redeemed of the Lord? Quite simply, you are now the children of God. The Bible says; "How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!." 1 John 3:1 (NIV). So what does that buy me, you ask? "He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all - how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?" Romans 8:32 (NIV) Sin and unworthiness You are reading this article to get confidence when you pray, right? So if you are feeling unworthy, know that such feelings are only on your side. God doesn't see you as unworthy, oh Christian. "There is now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." Romans 8:1 (KJV). So as long as you are indeed a born-again Christian, then God no longer condemns you. Which is to say, He doesn't consider you to be unworthy. Obviously we Christians still sin, and we are supposed to ask God for His forgiveness on a daily basis for our sins. Basic Christianity 101 stuff, right? Step 1 - Ask with right motives "You want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures." James 3:2,3 (NIV). A great thing about prayer is that it is so personal, and you can change whatever inside you without having to tell the world. No embarrassment or messy talks needed. Once you truly are clean inside, and you have the right motives about what you are asking for in prayer, what happens? Did you just go through painful change for nothing? Not at all my friend, for God tells us; "Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God." 1 John 3:21 (KJV). So now you have confidence toward God. Which is to say that you are worthy, and have no sin that will prevent you from coming to God and having a talk with Him about your needs and desires in prayer. Step 2 - Believe that God can do it Quite frankly, if God can't do it, then don't bother Him with your unbelief, ok? There is no need to waste His time and yours. "I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?" Jeremiah 32:27 (NIV). "And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him." 1John 5:14, 15 (KJV). So you came with confidence towards God (Step 1). Now you have confidence in God. Step 3 - Simply Believe "Jesus replied, 'I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." Matthew 21:21, 22 (NIV). But I only have enough faith to destroy a fig tree, not to move mountains. Will I still get my prayers answered? Jesus' reply to you is; "According to your faith will it be done for you." Matthew 9:29 (NIV). Now you have "washed yourselves" inside, have confidence in who God is, and believe God for whatever is your desire and or need. So start praying with confidence and expect to receive what you pray for. DO YOU WANT EVEN MORE PRAYERS ANSWERED?
