Stick To Your Niche

Here's one mistake many new entrepreneurs make when they set out to start their own business. They choose an industry or product that happens to be trendy at the time, hoping to cash in on it.

If that is your idea then you should ask yourself this. What do you know, what do you have a passion for or experience doing?

Do you know anything about cars, about golf, about fashion, about clothing? If not why are you trying to sell them? And why will anyone buy any of these from you?

If you know nothing about cars how do you convince someone to buy a car from you when you can't convince your customers that you are a knowledgeable, experienced automotive business person that can answer questions about the product, actualy cares about the product and services you are offering, has an enthusiasm for the business, and is someone that that customer can recomend to others. You simply won't be able do it, and more importantly, you shouldn't do it.

If you were looking for a job selling cars, and you had no interest in cars or very little knowledge about cars, you probably wouldn't apply for a sales job at a car lot. Even if you did your chances would be slim to none of getting a job selling cars.

Not only will the person who is interviewing you see right through you and recognize that you are not the person for the job, but even with your online business, your customers will see this as well.

The best advice for you when starting a business. Do what you know, what love to do or have a passion for. Try to find a niche in the industry you want to work in, or have experience in if possible. That excitment and knowledge will take you a lot further in your business than what happens to be trendy at the time.
