Strawberry is being grown at Sahadwa in district Hisar
(abcnewsnetwork.com) Chandigarh, Jan-20 :Strawberry is being
grown at an area of 50 acres in village Sahadwa in district
Hisarof Haryana. Mr. Brahmdev is the first farmer in the
district who has adopted the cultivation of strawberry. It may
be noted that Sahadwa is basically a desertarea. The water from
B N Chakraborty canal is lifted and sent to the further areas
for irrigationalpurposes. The extra water of the lake is
collected in the pond spread over an area of 40-50 acres.
Thiswater is being used by the farmers of the area.Besides
strawberry, "safed muslee" was also being cultivated in this
area. The strawberry is cultivatedfrom November to April. For
the plantation of strawberry, the sapling is brought from Manali
in Himachal Pradesh. Although the initial expenditure on the
cultivation of strawberrycomes to nearly Rs. two and a half lakh
per acre, butit begins to decrease once the crop starts
maturing.At present, the demand of the fruit is in Delhi andit
fetches around Rs. 200 to Rs. 300 per kg. Dinesh Singh Rawat
