Rising House Prices Spark Creative Idea
One family decides to take their struggle public with online
venture
VANCOUVER - February 2, 2006 - With recent reports pointing to
Vancouver as having the least affordable housing in Canada, it
is becoming almost beyond reach for the average family to
fulfill the dream of owning a home. As cash-strapped parents of
two year old twins whose rented half duplex is slated to go up
for sale next year, Megan and Dale Hobbs know this firsthand.
They desperately want to raise funds to enable them to purchase
the house they currently rent and also help other families in
similar situations. And so a unique idea to start the website
www.hookafamilyup.com was born. "Hookafamilyup.com is a site
where companies can buy affordable internet advertising that
links directly to their own website and also offer discounts or
other promotions to the public", says Dale Hobbs. "We hope to
sell one million dollars worth of ad space which would enable us
not only to reach our goals but help others do the same. We are
also gratefully accepting donations and all income generated
over and above what we need will be given away to other
struggling families". Dale and Megan write a blog on the site to
keep people updated on their progress and also link news
articles on the housing market for the public to read. With no
end in site to the rising costs of home ownership and the 2010
Vancouver Olympics just around the corner, other families
looking to afford even a modest house will no doubt need to do
some creative brainstorming too.
