Edinburgh, City of. Review
Edinburgh is reputed to have more than 700 pubs, and even though
the Scottish Lads have tried to visit them all we haven't
managed it yet. Edinburgh's has many varieties of pub to suit
all needs, from your local boozer, chain pubs and theme bars to
the more upmarket trendy bars and funky pubs. While prices in
Edinburgh are a bit on the high side there are many pubs that
cater towards the more financially challenged looking for as
much drink as possible for the least amount of money. The city
also has a name for being a great clubbing venue, and, like
Glasgow has regular visits from big named acts. The large
population of young professionals and students means that these
clubs will not run short of business, and Edinburgh remains one
of the best venues for a night out anywhere in the UK.Edinburgh
is also famous around the world for the New Year celebrations of
Hogmanay which includes a vast street party and firework
displays from Edinburgh castle. During August Edinburgh also
hosts the International Festival and Fringe which transforms
Edinburgh into fun filled city with comedy, art and film all on
show. Part of the Festival is the Edinburgh Tattoo which uses
the stunning backdrop of Edinburgh Castle.
Being the capital city of Scotland Edinburgh provides visitors
and locals with ample sightseeing opportunities including
historic buildings, diverse scenery, parks, museums and
galleries. The Scottish Parliament and High Court are situated
in Edinburgh as well as three universities Edinburgh, Heriot
Watt and Napier.
Here are some of the Scottish Lads favorites pubs:
The Three Sisters: Massive, sprawling pub with multiple bars and
a large beer garden. Friday & Saturday nights are outstanding
with plenty for hen and stag parties filling the dance floor up.
Beluga: Super atmosphere, great food and drinks plus a very
attentive staff. Great offers particularly with snapfax/student
deals. For dining you have to ask to sit upstairs, the food is
tasty and good value, and for drinking downstairs is usually
rammed and pretty loud so pretty hard to get a seat but again
good value and good atmosphere!
Bar 38: This is your usual in trendy town bar, the drink
selection is good. With the unusual decor but the best part is
the toilet (think Ally Mcbeal) who knows who you might meet in
there!
Espionage: Is open until 3pm so you'll normally find the
Scottish Lads heading there after The Three Sisters. With 5
levels and lots of trendy (mixed age range) people everywhere.
Each level has its own bar, music and crowd, to top it all off
its free entry.
Frankenstein: Go during the day for lunch or dinner, the food is
really good and not too expensive. If you haven't guessed yet
it's a themed pub based on Frankenstein, and theres a
Frankenstein that comes out every now and again. It can be too
busy at night but if you go early evening, you can get 2 for 1
pitchers and move on somewhere else later!
Golf Tavern: If you've seen the Golf pages of Scottish Lads then
you'll already have guessed that this is where we end up at the
end of the day. Great food and a decent pint after a Day of Golf
is perfect, its near a lot of student accommodation its always
busy.
Harrys Bar: This is a cheerfull pub/club very popular with after
workers and frankly old folk (especiallly chicks in their 40's
with v.bad tanning accidents) If you don't mind a fare dose of
cheesy seventies and eighties pop stuff and after a craich then
this place is nay bad. Its up to you how long you stay. To its
credit it is fairly lively, offers free entry and is open late.
Henry J Beans: This Henry J Beans is definately a cool pub.
Great music & atmosphere. Although the staff seemed to be happy
and friendly the service can be slow as they get carried away
making cocktails.
