Part 4 of 10 of "What is Life?" is the Admonition Four of Lao Mu and this is what she said:
Awakening thoroughly to what is true and what is false, one defintely transcends the mortal world.
Practising for the True Self is the most important in life. This mortal world is the sea of suffering where waves after waves and tides are boundless. The life of human is like that of a mayfly, born in the morning and die in the same night.
Who can escape the Judges in the Ten Justice Hall of the Underworld?
Day in and day out, you work laboriously hard, running back and forth. Just like cattle and horses running in the desert. Thousand of experiences and chores are like morning dew and frost on grass. Competing for fame or fortune and arranging for wealth and power, you drift in births and deaths. Attracted by the dearly wife and attached to the lovely sons is like a long dream. On the road to the Underworld, all will be apart and it is sorrowful.
Even if you are millionaires, with thousand of acres of land that harvests ten thousand bushel, the most you can eat in a day is one litre.
Even if you own mansions or large buildings, you take only eight feet when you sleep and cannot sleep on two beds.
Even if you have gold and silver piled up like hills, you cannot even take one penny away after death.
Even if you dress in silks and satins and your clothes are shining and bright, it only serve to keep you warm and to shield you from wind and frost.
Even if you eat sumptuous and fancy banquets, to pursue your appetites, you take lives and your sins and debts cannot be denied.
Even if you entertain yourselves everyday to suit your desires, in a hundred years, all will become a dream and time passes like a snap of fingers.
The mortal world is like an amusement park. Who is the grandfather? Who is the grandson? And who is the mother?
If you are awakened to all these, your whole family can practise Tao, accumulate merits, cultivate virtues and return Home together, the whole family is blessed.
This is wonderful blessing and mysticism were never revealed in the past. Sadly, the lost will not awake to this dream and those who seek after wealth would want to be monarchs even after becoming Prime Minister. The sufferings in Hell can hardly be described. In front of the Mirror of Sins, all sins are exposed. If good deeds weigh more, at least you will be rewared in the next life. But when the rewards are exhausted, you still must fall. If sins weigh more, sufferings will follow. The punishments based on your sins and debts must be borne by yourself. The eighteen strata of Hell cause a lot of sadness. "Taking an amiss step, regretting for a thousand years" it is said.
Once you lost the human body, forever you drift downward and hardly return to the Immortal home. Practise Tao, your vitality and soul will strengthen. Establish a firm will and vow to reach Heaven. Your departed ancestors of seven generations and nine generations of your descendants will benefit. It is one of the greatest merits because your ancestors are looking forward day and night. If you miss this opportunity you will have to wait for the next cycle which is 129,600 years when Tao of Heaven is again made available. Even if at that time you can seize the opportunity, it is not known whether you can be a human to receive Tao. It is better to take this opportunity now and hurriedly return to the Land of Bliss.
