Better Nutrition: Natural Food Supplements Bovine Cartilage
Bovine cartilage
Bovine cartilage is a type of connective tissue comprises of
mucopolysaccharides, protein substances, calcium, sulfur, and
collagen. From early 1950s, the cartilage has been used for
insertion in wounds.
Cartilage contains collagen and several types of
glycosaminoglycans, including chondroitin. Some
glycosaminoglycans in cartilage are reported to have
anti-inflammatory, anti-tumour and immune system-stimulating
properties. Bovine Cartilage contains several angiogenesis
inhibitors that block the formation of new blood vessels which
are necessary for cancerous tumours to grow. These angiogenesis
inhibitors have been identified as Cartilage-derived inhibitor
(CDI), Cartilage-derived antitumor factor (CATF) and
cartilage-derived collagenase inhibitor (CDCI). Bovine cartilage
is an ingredient in blood-and-bone fertilizers. Bovine
cartilage, marketed as a nutritional supplement. Cartilage
supplements and products are produced using the cartilage of a
variety of animals, including cattle (bovine), sheep, sharks and
chickens. Shark Cartilage supplements (made from cartilage from
the heads and fins of sharks) and Bovine cartilage(cattle)
Cartilage Supplements (made from the windpipes of cattle) are
the most common. Cartilage is a dense connective tissue found in
humans and animals.
Cartilage products have been used for the treatment of cancer,
psoriasis, arthritis, wounds, osteoporosis, ulcerative colitis,
regional enteritis, acne, scleroderma, haemorrhoids, severe anal
itching and some forms of dermatitis.
Bovine cartilage is now established by extensive long-term
quantitative and clinical research as a therapeutic food.
Cartilage added to the diet in sufficient quantity (about 9 gram
daily of quality Bovine cartilage) or topically applied has been
shown to heal intractable wounds; be anti-inflammatory (e.g.
gout); be analgesic in arthritic pain; restore movement in
arthropathy; be analgesic in some cancer pain; stop tumour
growth; and boost immune function.
