Last Holiday- HEARTWARMING COMEDY OF THE SEASON!
Tonight I had the privilege of being a part of a mailing where a
few select folks in our town got to see a special screening of
the new movie " Last Holiday".
The theater was packed full of people wanting to see the film
for the first time. Tight security for those folks who wanted to
video tape the film and make a dollar on ebay. (Those people
ruin movies for the rest of us).
Finally after an hour the movie got started. No previews
straight into the movie. If you haven't heard the buzz surround
"Last Holiday" the movie stars Queen Latifah as Georgia Byrd a
working woman who works for Kragen Department store in the
cookware department. Georgia is a shy woman. She doesn't really
stand out in a crowd and she's definitely not a woman who will
take a risk. One of her passions though is cooking but while she
loves to cook she doesn't usually eat her creations. She usually
has a simple Lean Cuisine meal and takes a picture of the
creation that she made while watching Emeril's live show and
places it in her possibilities album which is full of things
she'd like to do. Some of which include go to Europe and meet a
famous chef, go to cooking school, and marry Sean Matthews a
fellow sales clerk who works in outdoor grilling.
A strange accident happens in which Georgia is told she has
three weeks left to live. She makes a decision to live life to
the fullest. Georgia decides to do everything in her
possibilities book. She takes a trip to Europe where she
discovers she can do anything.
This film is very heartwarming. Has some outrageously funny
moments and the storyline is good despite some small gaps. The
acting is outstanding. Queen Latifah was born for this role. She
brings out the spunkyness of Georgia as well as the heart. LL
Cool J doesn't really get a whole lot of screen time in this
film we see more of Kragen (Timothy Hutton), Gerard Depardien
(Chef Dider), Alicia Witt (Ms. Burns), Giancarlo Esposito
(Senator Dillings), and Michael Nouri (Congressman Stewart).
While he doesn't get as much screen time as Latifah the role is
defnitely fitting for him.
This is definitely a must see film! Go see it with a friend a
family member or just go see it yourself but definitely go see
it!
