Interracial Dating and Relationships

Interracial Dating to say the least can be difficult. Mostly because of the people who aren't doing it. They feel they should impose their beliefs, ways of life and, ignorance upon those who are free enough to date people from other cultures.

I was a black man dating a white girl from Australia. We took a trip from Virginia to Texas by car. I lost count of the stares we recieved as we stopped at different rest stops. It was very uncomfortable. The farther south we traveled the more nervous I became. Thoughts of the past history of civil rights struggles and marches, violence and death overran my mind. Fortunately no one gave us any grief other than the stares.

When I lived in New Orlean I also dated a white girl. In a place where I thought people might be more open minded it was even worse. Since my previous girlfriend was from Australia there was no family interference. This time was a lot different. Her brother and her father hated me. We caught the usual stares and a lot more comments under breath.

Interracial dating also seems to be somehow connected to immoral sexual acts. If you get on the internet and search interracial dating or similar search phrases many time a list of pornography sites will come up, featuring sex between black men and white women. Apparently, as much as interracial dating is appauling to some, it is erotically stimulating for others. We live in a pretty strange society.

No one seems to say anything about White guys and Asian women, or White women and Latin guys. If a White woman dates a black man though she is some sort of slut. Or, if a white man dates a black woman he is looked down upon and said to be dating down. Why the differences? Black men are considered sell outs by black women if they date white.

People should be able to date whom ever they want. If they are attracted to one another and love one another, there is no reason they shouldn't be toghether if they choose. But interracial dating in this country is still frowned upon. When will people begin to see just people?

If you are in an interracial relationship don't let people outside the relationship influence you. Only two people matter, you and the person you are with. If you can handle the stares, comments, and jokes etc., fight for your relationship. You shouldn't have to go through this, but it is a fact of life, one you will have to deal with for a while.

Love and trust should be the foundation of any relationship. If anything other than these are the foundation of your relationship it may not last very long. With the added pressure from outside the relationship it gets even harder. Interracial dating will always have its problems so it helps to have love and trust in place.

Love loves all regardless of skin color or race or religion. Ignore those who would have you break up and date only people from your own race. It is really up to you. Not anyone else.
