Don't Allow Outside Factors To Determine What You Think You Are Capable Of

Have you ever had the feeling that there were outside forces trying to somehow convince you that you're not capable of achieving the things you desire? They could be anything ranging from people, to past experiences, or even an IQ test taken years ago.

Why is it that we allow such things to dictate our present and future life? Really take a minute to give that some serious thought and identify your past experiences that might have played a part in forging the life script that has lead you to having a sense of doubt.

Now it's time to focus on taking real action and re-writing your own belief system. The beliefs that will propel you towards real achievements and personal success in your life.

First, you've got to keep clearly in mind that at times it might feel like an uphill battle. When you feel a sense of doubt creeping in, identify it for what it is, but don't give power to that thought. Simply repeat in your mind that you are as capable of accomplishing great things as anyone is.

Really take a minute to visualize yourself achieving the thing you desire. Make that a part of your thinking and you begin to re-write your life script. Make this a regular occurrence. The idea here is to replace the sense of doubt with one of knowing that you've got what it takes to succeed.

Recently I heard Dr. Wayne Dyer recount a story in his life where he was in college and was asked to review a poem and give a synopsis of the meaning of the poem.

Upon turning in his paper he received a b on it. Feeling that he deserved better he found out who the writer of the poem was and took the time to write to him. He sent his copy of the paper along to the poet and asked the person what he believed was the meaning behind his poem. The person wrote him back and the result was that both the poet and he had seen the poem to mean the same thing.

Dr. Dyer took his letter back to his college professor at the time and the professor told him the grade still stands and that sometimes poets miss the meaning of their own writings.

Now, I am know expert in poetry, but can you imagine? I believe the story above is a brilliant example of showing how important it is to take certain things with a grain of salt. As well as to keep in mind that we have to take criticisms of our abilities and put them into perspective sometimes.

Very often it's not that others doubt us, as much as that they are not able to see themselves achieving the same results we desire, so they end up passing on their feelings on things to us.

The bottom line is you've got to be weary about who you allow to determine what you set out to achieve. Look to guidance from those who have accomplished the same type things you want to do.

If you have a desire to be a better parent, then learn from those who are excellent in that area. If you want to start your own business, look to those who have done just that.

Take advice and comments from those who have not done what you wish to do with a grain of salt. That's not to say that you should only listen to people with a rosey outlook on everything, there is wisdom to be gained in the experiences of both positives and negatives if we look close enough.

However, you must believe without a doubt that you do have what it takes to live your own definition of success. People every single day are doing just that, and it's very true that if they can -- so can you.

Next, you've got to put action behind your beliefs. Even the smallest of real action creates an ember that will ignite and propel you towards leading the life you desire.

Keep the past where it belongs. Re-write your own belief systems and put the action behind your goals and in turn you're certain to see wonderful things appear in your life.
