I'll Be Dammed

A stagnant body of water contains poisons and toxins that can bring certain death. It's natural to say you would not drink from it. But what a beautiful sight to see a sparkling, pristine body of water that flows freely. It gives life, it's refreshing and most of all it's essential to survival. One of the most beautiful displays of this is a free flowing water fall. Have you ever wondered where all that water comes from? It's a never ending source as it continues to feed other bodies of water, constantly supplying new life wherever it flows. Water is said to be the mightiest of all natural elements, it is unmoveable, and unstoppable.

God refers to His Spirit as the water of life, we all need it in order to truly live. Once His Holy Spirit starts flowing inside us, it can't be stopped as it will also flow onto others around us to see the power that it has.

God thought water to be very important as it was created in the beginning in Genesis 1 vs. 6. Everything God has made has far greater meaning than what our eyes see. As I mentioned, water is symbolic for God's Holy Spirit and He refers to it as the Living Waters.

"and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us." Rom. 5:5

God describes loving us so much that He pours out His Spirit into us just like water. He gives it to us freely when we are willing to recieve it. God does not want for us to become stagnant and experience death.

This love is also symbolic in the blood of Christ that was poured out to cover all our sins. Christ never made any exceptions as to who would benefit from this great sacrifical love. God illiminated not one, because He wishes that no one will perish in the stagnant state that Satan wishes to keep us in.

But this is a free will choice, God will not strong arm any one into choosing this life. That choice all started with the disobedience of Adam and Eve. After sin entered, God put stipulations on all men. He gave everyone a free will choice to live or die. Death was the sentence for the sins of disobedience and it still remains the same today in the judgement court of God.

"Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and whose trust is the Lord. For he will be planted by the water, that extends its roots by a stream and will not fear when the heat comes; But its leaves will be green, and it will not be anxious in a year of drought, nor cease to bear fruit." Jer. 17:7-8

God blesses anyone who trusts in Him. He refers to this trust as a tree whos roots are deep and secure and receive life giving water to protect it from any thing that would otherwise dry it up. In other words, if we aren't planted securely in our faith, we can not stand up to the attacks from the elements of the world. God promises that this kind of faith in Him will bring about fruit in our lives that would normally dry up and fall off. We just can't hope to flourish without God's living water in us.

As God tells us what He promises the person who trusts in Him, He also warns those who won't.

"O Lord, the hope of Israel, All who forsake Thee will be put to shame, Those who turn away on earth will be written down, Because they have forsaken the fountain of living water, even the Lord." Jer. 17:13

In all our choices we also have consequences for them. This verse clearly says that anyone who forsakes God will be put to shame and remembered no more. He refers to His living waters as a fountain which also depicts a free flowing form of His Spirit. If you choose to forsake Him you will not live.

In deciding not to choose God's life, a person's very existence will dry up, become stagnant and bring about death. All the toxins such as hatred, unforgiveness, resentment, bitterness, anxiety, contempt and physical illnesses will contaminate our very essence. This stagnant state will leave us alone and lonely because we offer nothing beneficial to pass on. In our stagnant state, no one will want to drink from the water that we contain. This contaminated spirit can infect others through the negative actions that will come about.

But the good news is, it doesn't have to stay dammed up. Whatever it is that may be causing this dam, whatever sin is stopping the flow of God's Holy Spirit to live in you, it can be removed through confession with your mouth that you need Christ in your life to be the Lord and Savior over all. Once confessions are made, Christ said He would send us a comforter, the Holy Spirit that will soon start trickling in and will replace the dead pool with a never ending water fall of living water! Before you know it, it will overflow and will spill out and saturate others with life.

Isn't that a wonderful thought that your spirit through the Holy Spirit will bring about life everlasting? As it feeds into you, you can then pass it along on to others who need a fresh way of living.

Pass it on!

If you feel as if your life is dammed up with sin and corruption, ask God to free the dam by inviting Christ into your life to be the Lord and Master over all. Tell Him you are sorry for your sins but now you believe that Christ came to die for you and was risen as Lord and Savior. If you are serious about your needs for Him, He will be faithful in turning the dam of your soul into the fountain of living water!

Get thirsty for God!
