Trick or Treat Safety Tips

Parents should accompany kids on trick or treating on Halloween. It is imperitive that we keep all out children safe. While chaperoning your kids and their friends it is best to stay about 10 to fourteen feet behind them so you can observe the surrounding situation and be certain that there are no approaching threats. Also it allows the kids to enjoy themselves and not feel as if you are bothering them. It is their night to remember and we must remember to make it enjoyable for them. You should remember to bring your flashlight. Perhaps also have your children wear or carry a glow stick so you can identify them by this as they run up the driveways to the porches.

Always position yourself so you can see the door of the house they are approaching and only go to neighborhoods you are familiar with. Do not allow your kids to go alone, even in a group. When their bags get too full carry the extra so they do not lose it or have it stolen from bigger kids.

Costumes should be cut if they hang down past where normal jeans might to avoid tripping. Always use cross walks, because many costumes are black in color and many drivers are impaired after Halloween parties. Even if your kids go with a neighbor who is chaperoning make sure they have their name and phone number on a piece of paper on them at all times. Be sure you children know not to ever go into a stranger
