Hanalei Colony Resort in Haena, Kauai

This is paradise. We kept on repeating this every day of our stay here. There were moments when we did not want to go home. Kauai's North Shore is definitely one of the most beautiful places on Earth. I have travelled the globe and I have rarely encountered such natural splendor. It is still quite unspoiled by urban sprawl and mega corporate malls ....

On our initial arrival, we drove from the airport in Lihue. It was night time and after an hour or so we were worried that we missed our destination. We crossed the seven (or so) one lane bridges but we could not see anything in the pitch dark. Finally, a sign appeared welcoming us to the Hanalei Colony Resort. In the morning we were awestruck by our surroundings, ocean was at our feet, lush green vegetation, high mountains rising out of the ocean with numerous waterfalls. Magnificent.

Rooms are more like small two bedroom condos. They can accomodate one to five people. We were very comfortable with just two people. We opened up all the movable walls and had this huge area to ourselves. Beds are comfortable and they are made every other day. The balcony is awesome, enabling you to eat breakfast (i.e.) and watch the waves break. Grounds are kept neat. Barbecue is available for anyone to use. There are no major eating establishments here so bring your own food. The condo kitchen is furnished with all modern appliances. The beach was a 100 feet from our room. Pure paradise.

I would wholeheartedly recommend the Hanalei Colony Resort. It is not a hotel and actually has no resort feeling at all. We felt like we were living in the wilderness. It is very laid back, with awesome natural surroundings and very good ammenities. I love this place.
