What's Causing GM's Creative Slump?

Over the last 30 years I have always had the opinion that American automobile manufacturers were lacking the spark of creativity. I'm not surprised now that GM has been going into free fall. Ford Motor Company appears not too far behind.

After listening to an interview with a leading American automobile journalist I heard him say that GM does have some interesting products coming on stream in the next year i.e. some interesting SUV's and Pickup trucks.

This pronouncement just served to substantiate the same feelings I've had all along; that the GM people are not only out of touch with the consumer and also that their imagination and creativity has all but shut down.

Why has "creativity" gone to sleep in America? Well, it's my view that designers are too caught up in myopic ways of thinking and that this has essentially cut off the much needed connection to their creative resources. The main culprit here is actually a spiritual matter.

Now what do I mean by that? Well, it turns out that the flow of creative thoughts and ideas is essentially sourced from a state that many individuals have called "the Zone". What characterizes the Zone?

The Zone is a mental/emotional/spiritual state that has all of the following qualities:

1. Feeling relaxed.

2. Feeling open to new ideas.

3. A sense of great resilience.

4. Enhanced intuitive abilities.

5. Enhanced creative abilities.

6. Courage to take risks with ease.

7. A connection to a Divine source of wisdom or knowledge.

8. A playfulness associated with joy, contentment, fulfillment and abundance.
