Article Writing and Article Marketing: What Do They Want to Read?

Wal-Mart, McDonalds, and other large corporations spend millions of dollars doing market research, trying to discover what it is that their customers want.

We can take a hint from what they do.

Don't assume you know

The mistake many authors and other private practice professionals make is assuming the we know what the public wants, creating something we think they want, and then wondering why it does not sell.

I'm seen many writers create books or e-books that they are in love with, only to find they are they only one that wants it.

So what do I write about?

What I am talking about is doing your "market research." In our 90 Day Practice Building Intensive at BuildingYourIdealPractice.com we consider market research so important that we spend a full two weeks on it.

There are many ways to do market research. When you post articles to EzineArticles.com and other article directories, there is a simple, free and powerful way to do market research that is often over looked.

All you have to do is check out the number of article views that an article receives. The more articles you have posted the better this research is, because readers have more and more articles from which to choose.

When you see certain articles getting a higher number of views, you know that these are articles people want to read.

Then you write more of them.

For example, if this article is accepted, I'll have 627 articles posted on EzineArticles.com as of this writing. Many of those articles have been viewed hundreds of times. The one that has been viewed the most, "Relationship Advice: 10 Warning Signs of an Emotional Affair" has been viewed 4,987 times. The next highest has been viewed 880.

Do you think I might write some more articles about emotional affairs?

You betcha!
