Beating Hair Loss and Also Understanding How it Comes About

Cause

Most of us either know someone who is affected by this condition or perhaps are ourselves affected. The fact is that hair loss is not peculiar to men, it does occur in women too. The earliest indications of this affecting people are found in ancient finds and narratives.

In some societies in the past it was believed that to be bald headed was regarded to be a sign of wealth. In some it was said to be associated with being virile and manly. We all know that that isn't the case and in fact baldness (alopecia) is a condition found mainly in males, most of it is due to a genetic susceptibility of certain individuals to the ill effects of some chemicals in the body. The affected persons are not necessarily producing excessive amounts of the chemical, DHT(Dihydro testosterone).

It is present in all individuals and is the active form of the male hormone. In bald headed men, the hair follicle are very susceptible to the damaging effects of this active form of testosterone, which contradicts the popular belief that contrary to the belief that people who are bald have high levels of testosterone. This chemical then stifles the growth of hair follicles and thus slowly 'suffocates' the hair follicles so that when they hair fall or is cut the new hair that grows is thinner than what has been before it. Eventually the hair will become so small that it is hard visible to the eye and then you get the bald head.

Remedies:

Numerous attempts in the past were made to find a cure. People used anything in the hope that their hair will grow again. A lot of substances were marketed by many in the promise of a cure to people. But of course as with many things developed by untrained and unqualified individuals and groups it turned out to be empty promises in most cases. Some of these people had a genuine belief that their preparations worked but a great many of them knew it did not. It should also be noted that there are many causes of hair loss and no single solution should be used to treat all forms of hair loss. Hereditary pattern hair loss in men is by far the most common form of hair loss.

Finally though a medically proven and successfully remedy was discovered, but there was a downside. Its limitation was that like all medicines there were some side effects, many of these side effects were reversible on stopping the medication. The most notable and by far the most common was loss of libido and this turned out to be the downfall of this wonderful drug. Since the medicine is taken by mouth it was not only available in the scalp area which was where it is required and is carried in the blood to other parts of the body. This resulted in the loss of libido for those taking the drug. Young men in their prime are the first to notice and most are discouraged by reduced or even obliterated response to their partners while on this drug. So, there arose the question of developing a drug that will act only where it is needed.

A topical solution was sough and the breakthrough came in the form a wonder solution named Minoxidil. It is by far the most common topical agent for the treatment of hair loss. It is a "wonderful little" (in the form of a solution) potion that is simply applied to the affected areas and the result are often dramatic. You should start noticing hair re-appearing again. I have personally used this and I have my hair back, some time I wonder if I ever had male pattern hair loss. This solution works by preventing the conversion of testosterone into DHT and thus will allow hair to literarily resurrect. It has practically no side effects because it is applied only over the areas affected and does not go into the blood stream and any significant quantity. They come in different concentration the 5% solution is the most effective and useful in a majority of hair loss cases. This remedy has proven it effectiveness in men as well as women, who are experience hair loss,
