Article Writing Tip #1 - Have a Conversation With Your Reader

I see so many article writers, both newbies and veterans, get hung up on trying to write in jargon and professional-ese.

While there may be a place for that, if you are writing articles to drive prospects to your web site, this is not the place for jargon-esque writing.

A favorite compliment

One of the best compliments I receive from clients and others is "You don't talk (read write) like a therapist."

Thank you and thank God for that.

How to have a conversation with your reader

The simplest thing to do is to write like you talk. When you are writing, keep in mind your audience.

It's called knowing and keeping in mind your ideal client. What are the needs of your ideal client? What worries them, what keeps them up at night? What do they say they want?

Keep these questions in mind as you write. For some it helps to picture an ideal client or a room full of them as you write.

The key benefit of writing like you talk

This one is just huge - the key benefit of writing like you talk, of having a conversation with your reader, is that they will quickly grow to know, like and trust you.

When they know, like and trust you, the reader is much more likely to end up a prospect on your web site, because they want more of you.
