Skin Care Fundamentals: Cleansing

Cleansing is the first step of skin care process.

Throughout the day, grease, perspiration, dust, stale make-up, dirt and bacteria tends to collect on your skin and needs to be removed. Ordinary face washing with soap and water does not remove them from the skin. Cleansing creams do that as they go deeper into the pores and wash them thoroughly.

While applying cleanser, following steps should be taken :

  • Apply the cleansing cream in generous quantity on cheeks, chin, neck and forehead.

  • To avoid making your hair greasy, you should always tuck it before applying the cream.

  • Cleanse your face two times a day, once in the morning and again before going to bed.

  • Always use a moist cotton to remove the cream. Dry cotton absorbs the moisture from the skin. You might need to repeat the cleansing process 2-3 times until the cotton tissue is clean.

  • While cleansing the skin with a cream, lotion or milk, it must be massaged into the skin with a light upward and outward movement, paying particular attention to the grease of the nose, under chin area, neck, corners of the mouth and ear lobes.
  • There is no universal facial cleaners. You should choose the most appropriate one according to your individual type of skin.

For dry skin types use a super fatty cleansing soaps with lots of moisture added. On the contrary, oily skin types should use a non-greasy, milky skin cleanser that leaves no sticky film on the skin.

Sensitive skin types should only use mild soaps with no fragrance or fancy ingredients, while normal skin types can use any type of facial skin cleansers, homemade or store bought.
