A Forehead Lift is the medical terminology for what most people refer to as a browlift, forehead lift, brow forehead lift, and browlift surgery in general.

In this procedure the goal is to correct and minimize forehead creases, drooping eyebrows, hooding over eyes, furrowed forehead and frown lines. This is accomplished by removing excess tissue, altering muscles and tightening the forehead skin. There are two surgical procedures that may be utilized to perform a Forehead Lift. The traditional employs the use of an incision across the top of the head just behind the hairline. The procedure known as the endoscopic Forehead Lift utilizes an endoscope, which requires 3 to 5 short incisions.

The length of operation typically runs 1 to 2 hours.

Patients are given a general or local anesthesia, with sedation.

Most Forehead Lift procedures are routinely outpatient.

Risks and/or complications related to the Forehead Lift procedure

In both types of Browlift operations the patient may experience potential side effects consisting of temporary swelling, numbness, headaches, and bruising. Individuals receiving the traditional method may face possible itching and hair loss.

In addition there are other associated risks with this procedure that include the risk of injury to the facial nerve resulting in a loss of facial motion, subsequent muscle weakness, or asymmetrical appearance. Additionally there is a chance of infection and possible excessive scarring.

For most patients the recovery time needed varies with the type of procedure. Patients may return to work in approximately 7 to 10 days for the traditional procedure with decreased times for the endoscope forehead lift. Those involved in sports or other physical activities will be able to resume these activities in approximately 2 to 3 weeks. Individuals are advised to limit their exposure to the sun for several months afterwards.

Long-term results of the Forehead Lift procedure

In this procedure the results may last several years, often between 5 and 10 years.
