Real Estate Professionals Prepare for Backlash of Antitrust Litigation

The antitrust litigation that has the real estate industry keeping a watchful eye on Washington has stirred the creative juices of some savvy real estate professionals.

Whether or not the antitrust litigation will result in sweeping reform of the real estate industry has industry insiders taking bets and lamenting about an inevitable backlash against real estate professionals.

Savvy real estate professionals, however, are already researching new ways to earn money in the industry that has been so good to them.

"We have seen a major increase in clients requesting FSBO sites in the last few months," Mike Sabar, a web designer and developer based in New York explained. "It seems like For Sale By Owner sites are the latest craze," Sabar continued.

FSBO sites are popping up across the Internet and the investment in the designing, developing and marketing of these sites are comparable to the investment in sites for Realtors, which previously outpaced FSBO investment considerably.

FSBO websites attract buyers and sellers looking to avoid paying Realtor commissions and view the Internet as a great tool to bring buyers and sellers together without the assistance of a Realtor.

What may be most interesting about the increase in FSBO website inquiries is where the inquiries are coming from. Many of the inquiries are coming from people already in the real estate industry looking to stay ahead of the competition as the antitrust litigation moves forward and the public becomes more informed about the real estate industry which is likely to lead to some considerable backlash.

The Internet has already had an enormous impact on the real estate industry, primarily as a resource tool for Realtors to find prospects and bring buyers and sellers together on their websites. In coming months, however, the Internet will wield the second side of its sword and prove to be a vehicle to bring buyers and sellers together without the assistance of a Realtor.

The biggest winners of all may be buyers, sellers and website developers who will all take their piece of the pie that was previously being enjoyed nearly exclusively by Realtors.
