UAE to Buy US Ports?

Many are concerned about big world money players from the Middle East buying up United States Ports. In fact we see Lou Dobbs running a special TV segment on the issue. Handing over control or partial control is problematic indeed, although the government assures us not to worry about security as it would not affect the security of the six large seaports in question.

We must remember that the British have controlled some in the past. South Korea runs one next door to Long Beach, CA and that seaports are international Trade zones. Our Coast Guard is boarding every foreign ship now. The ships are coming anyway. Some free market economists say this is not so bad and ask the question; shouldn't we get some of our out going money flows back into the US? After all there are significant Middle Eastern trade deficits at issue. International shipping companies are International after all. They are the key to global trade.

Many are asking Americans; don't you find this a little disturbing? Others say that the US is being sold to the World piece meal and that yes it does concern them indeed. Our trade routes and ports are a vital important part of our economy and the over all flows of our civilization, yet we must study these issues without succumbing to a knee jerk reaction. So we must look at all the issues, which ports and study it, think on this in 2006.
