Gigabyte Release The I-Ram

If the thought of super-fast data storage floats your boat, then you'll be glad to know that Gigabyte have announced their new storage device which is set to revolutionise the way in which data is stored within your PC, Server or network.

The I-Ram system is basically a huge, solid state hard drive. So, without the spinning disk platters, and the ability for a drop to completely ruin it, the I-Ram will store your data much more safely than a conventional hard disk.

If you think this all sounds a little too techie and that installation of the I-Ram device will be a nightmare, then think again. Simply install some memory onto the card, insert the card into an available PCI slot and then lead the Serial ATA cable to the motherboard and away you go! Instant, solid state hard drive.

Upon switching on your PC, the motherboard BIOS will detect the I-Ram as a standard hard disk, therefore, its compatible with any operating system. You can even add multiple I-Rams together to create a solid state Raid array!

The I-Ram comes with 4 DIMM slots which can take a maximum of 1GB per slot, giving you a maximum of 4GB of solid state hard drive. Doesnt sound much in todays world, but that 4GB will make a MASSIVE difference to your PC's performance.

It isnt really useful as a storage device per se, due to its limited 4GB size, but if you think about it, you can install all your heaviest data-reliant programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Cubase etc on this drive and its load time and performance will be blisteringly fast.

All in all, the I-Ram from Gigabyte is going to change the way we store data in the future.
