Responsible Teenagers

One cold night, my husband picked me up from work. I was working second shift, which ended at midnight. We drove the same way we did every night, down a long country road. We had been driving for about 10 minutes, when coming towards us was an elderly woman, walking in her pajamas, with no shoes. I was so upset. There was two cars behind us. We pulled over to make a u-turn. The car behind us kept driving, but the car behind them had already made a u-turn. We drove back down the road. We saw the car. They had pulled over by the elderly woman and we pulled up behind them. It was so heart-warming to see what I saw that night. Two teenage boys, probably 17 years old, had gotten out of their car and had taken their own coats off and placed them around the elderly woman. I could see the concern and fear on their faces. My husband and I took over and thanked both the boys. We had a blanket in the van, so we wrapped her in that. Unfortunately she did not remember her address, so we took her to the emergency room. She did remember her name and they were able to call her daughter. She was confused and cold, but fine.

I was so impressed by the two boys, who showed so much reponsibility and compassion towards a total stranger. I think in this day and age you hear so many bad things about teens. It was refreshing to see the opposite. I wrote an article the next day to our local paper to thank the boys and let our community know that we do have good, moral, and responsible kids in our town and in the world.
