North America and Australia are two of the regions and areas which has been given the opportunity to get to know the Ford LTD. The Ford LTD is from the Ford Motor Company. People have certainly been wondering though just what the three letters LTD mean. Some speculate that it means Limited. However, the Ford Motor Company of Australia claims that the Ford LTD simply means Lincoln Type Design.

In the United States and the rest of North America, including Mexico, the Ford LTD came as a line of luxury cars that were crafted and manufactured to be large ones. At first, the name, LTD, was known as just an option for the Ford Galaxie. However, it soon became a separate model on its own come the year 1967. Later on, the production of the Ford Galaxie was halted and the Ford LTD took over the spot vacated by the Galaxie. Come 1977, there became two Ford LTDs. The full size version was known as the Ford LTD while the other one became known as the Ford LTD II. Each of these models were made available with various body styles that comprised of the coupe, the sedan, and the wagon.

There were other choices given to this vehicle was well. In fact, one of these were the grilles. There were two of these. One held a lower line with a single square headlight while, on the other hand, was a more premium design with duals. The former was constantly and commonly seen used on police cars.

In the United States, the Ford LTD became the third best selling car during the years 1983 and 1984. This vehicle continued up until 1991. And in 1992, it was reskinned and was produced as a sedan only. This one then was marketed and sold as the Ford Crown Victoria which is also one of the most popular vehicles and also used widely as police cars.
