Cyber World

Computers are part of our everyday life, but is this a good thing? Is there maybe some threat computers poses that we are not aware of? Well you are never sure in the Cyber World.

We are surrounded by a world of computers and many of us can't imagine our world without computers. Computers have made our lives easier in many ways, like Internet shopping and banking, giving you power to trade from home, sitting in your most comfortable chair. E-mail has also become a very powerful communication tool and many companies won't survive without the electronic infrastructure that e-mail gives to the corporate world. The best of all is that the Internet is not controlled from a central point but yet it seems to flourish, without anyone worrying about the fact that the Internet may not exist tomorrow. It is like expecting the sun to come up the next morning, no one thinks or worries about it, they just expect it to happen.

Computers have brought millions of profits to large companies, but have also been the downfall of individuals. Many employees have been demoted or retrenched due to the fact that a computer has taken over their job. The computer could do the same person's work 1000 times more productive than one single person (1000 times these days are actually an understatement because we have much more powerful computers these days than those of a decade ago). Luckily computers can only substitute for humans, where the work is repetitive of nature. This is changing slowly, due to AI (Artificial Intelligence). Computers are not only becoming stronger in terms of processing power but also in the department of intelligence. Today computers can understand speech and speak back to an user, but the technology is still far from perfect. A world ruled by computers is only science fiction to us, today, but that will certainly change in the future. The human race can't keep up with the rapid development of technology and this only emphasizes the huge potential our technology holds for the future.

Computers have many advantages but also hold many threatening disadvantages. Why the term threatening disadvantages? Well the answer is simple. Many of the disadvantages computers have are not reality today, but should it become reality, it will not be a possible threat any more, but a disadvantage that has become a real threat.
