Mystery of Acquiring Brass Locomotives

Hobbyists are constantly surfing the net for steam locomotives and where they can find the cheapest buy. Even I have done the same. However, there are specific sources that have become major areas for acquiring these engines. We are going to review one of the sources.

For example, eBay has become a major source for me. The draw back is that you have to bid for the item you want and that sometimes can get out of hand. Many times folks get wound up in the bidding and loose site of the cost of the item. You must have patience.

Take your time bidding. Wait till the last minute to make your bid that way you have a better chance of getting the item. Hopefully it will be at a reasonable price.

You must go over the listing of the item that you are interested in carefully. Many of these older engines have been damaged but can be fixed. I have bought several engines on eBay that were damaged but were fixable and our now top of the line steam locomotives.

There are two locomotives I bought that were in bad shape and I wish the sellers could see them now. You would be surprised at what you can do to make what appears to be a bad locomotive in to a gem.

I have worked with many hobbyists and we have found that many of these engines can be acquired at a very cheap price but you need to be ready to do some work to make them what they should be.
