Improving the Strength of Young Athletes

Much debate has revolved around what age to start young athletes on a strength training program. Athletes of all ages should participate in some sort of strength training to improve performance and reduce the risk of injury. The problem is that not all athletes should be doing the same strength programs. This has become a problem in high schools where junior high athletes are doing the same program as varsity football players. For instance, there is no need to have an athlete squat with heavy weight on them if they cannot correctly perform a squat with only their bodyweight.
