Accelerating Avalanche Rescue Response

One of the biggest issues in extreme skiing is the risk of avalanche and although most people are well aware of this problem, often they will take life into their own hands for that ultimate thrill on an other wise very risky and unstable slope.

Still an avalanche victim can be buried under several feet of snow in seconds and unless some one comes to their aid extremely quickly they will not have much time to live. Perhaps you have seen the Discovery Channel Specials on Avalanches or the Weather Channel Segments on this subject and are aware of just how serious this problem is in reality?

For those who are extreme skiers they often wear special beacons in case of just such an avalanche potential eventuality, although some realize this may not be enough to save them. I propose an airbag system, which will expand during a tumbling event during extreme skiing, which would also be activated in the case of an avalanche.

The airbag system would deploy in a donut shape leaving the skier inside while activating the beacon. I propose the beacon to be made of a RFID active tag, which will have a battery power assist. The skier if okay would be safe and make a cell phone call or even pop the airbag and use that space to allow him to dig himself out. Consider all this in 2006.
