How To Get Free Promotion for Your Business

In this series about promoting your business I am setting out many tips you can use to establish your presence. You will have heard me talk about being observant and even in the context of promoting a business I recently experienced something new.

We attended the wedding of the daughter of some longstanding friends. As is usual there was a lot of standing around while the photographs were taken. I noticed the photographers were three young women and thought good for them in what is a male dominated profession.

After the wedding breakfast one of the young women photographers came to each table and gave everyone what appeared to be a business card. It was in fact a card with details of the web site where the wedding photographs will be posted and from where we could order our selection.

This was new to me and I thought what great way of doing business. I then also thought what a great way of promoting your business to an interested captive audience because she gave out around 150 cards.

I then looked carefully at the card which gave the web address and instructions on how to access the photographs, the back side was blank. What an opportunity missed!

Surely the blank side of the card should have carried the business name, postal address, contact numbers, email and web address and a contact name and perhaps what the business specialised in. So my initial admiration was a little diluted. Please make sure you take every opportunity to get exposure for your activities and business.

Normally business cards have the business name and all of the above information on the front with the back left blank. Give details of what your business specialisation is on the back of your business card. It is after all free advertising space.

These photographers were overlooking the fact that some of the guests would not even own a computer and therefore be unable to access the photographs. Some of the guest may have been potential clients in need of conventional means of contact, the blank side of the card was an opportunity missed. Use all free means you can to promote your business.

Tip Luck is something a man goes to some lengths to create.
