Marketing is a Marathon, Go the Distance!

"When it comes to attracting clients and growing a successful small business, wise professionals think about marketing as if it were a marathon, never a 50-yard dash!"

Here's the deal: If you're going to invest any amount of time or financial resources into promoting your services, consider adopting what I refer to as a "Marathon Marketing Mindset."

A Marathon Marketing Mindset entails committing yourself to engaging in daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly marketing activities. This mindset, combined with consistent action ensures that you'll not only attract tons of new clients, but that you will also avoid the dreaded feast or famine roller coaster that so many professionals find themselves on a monthly basis.

So how does one start to develop this "Marathon Marketing Mindset"? Take a look at the list below!

  1. On a Daily Basis: Contact at least two clients you haven't spoken to in the past two months. Check in just to say "hello." What will you do on a daily basis?
  2. On a Weekly Basis: Seek out and attend a new event where your target market will be hanging out in large numbers. (Don't forget to go armed with a killer self-introduction!) What will you do on a weekly basis?
  3. On a Monthly Basis: Write an article and submit to any of the gazillion online submission sites such as anyarticle.com (http://anyarticle.com) What will you do on a monthly basis?
  4. On a Quarterly Basis: Write and submit a press release to announce that award you just won, or that new product or service you've just added. What will you do on a quarterly basis?.
  5. On a Yearly Basis: Participate in a trade fair or another type of event that allows you to showcase your products and services in front of your ideal customers and clients. What will you do on an annual basis to promote and grow your business?

Take Action!

Now that you have an outline for your Marathon Marketing Plan, begin by brainstorming ideas for each one of the categories above and add 3-4 activities of your own that you'll do over the next 12 months. Once you do, you'll be well on your way to crossing the finish line with more clients than you can handle.
