Bamboo Flooring

In the past few years, bamboo flooring has gained much popularity not only among big companies, but in homes as well. Bamboo flooring is made from bamboo pieces steamed, flattened, glued together under high pressure, finished and cut. In recent times, bamboo flooring has acclaimed a lot of popularity in North American because of its resistance to insects and moisture. Bamboo flooring is available in natural and carbonized colors. Carbonized Colors are achieved by pressure steaming and are softer than natural.

Bamboo flooring has many advantages over ordinary flooring. The common hardwood floor plant takes 50 or more years to reach maturity, while bamboo plants replenish in five to six years. And, while the roots of the bamboo can be harvested over and over again, other hardwoods require significant time to grow (decades) and will not grown back after cutting. Also, bamboo flooring is much more solid and harder than the traditional hardwood floors.

Bamboo flooring is ecologically friendly as it is a natural resource and is both recyclable and renewable. Doctors recommend it for allergy sufferers because bamboo does not collect dust and allergens. However, maintaining bamboo floors takes special care. Wet mops should not be used on bamboo floors. They should not be over waxed and should not be walked on wearing spiked shoes or high heels. A humidifier should be used during winter months to minimize wood movement and shrinkage. Some bamboo flooring is more expensive than other brands, but don't just buy based on price. Inspect the quality, then make your decision.
