Bring a Dog into Your Life!

Finding a pet is fun. It's one of the best things you can do. The animal receives a good home and the pet offers you companionship. It's really one of the best things going. There are a few factors to consider when you decide to bring a pet into your family. I have dogs, so dogs will be the focus of this five step article on selecting the perfect pet for you.

1. You need to understand that dogs can be very demanding. A puppy will act like a puppy. Don't expect things from a young dog, that you may from a larger dog. Young pups take time to train and they will do the typical puppy things. If you adopt a larger dog from the pound, understand that some of these dogs have been abused and may be a little skiddish. Don't blame the dog, just have patience and the dog will start to act normal over time.

2. Dogs love to eat. They eat, sleep, and play. Dogfood can be expensive. I'm not going to pretend that I know how much it costs for a dog to eat a year, because I don't keep track of it. Just realize that it can be expensive and some foods will not agree with the dog. Every dog can be different, so certain foods may make him or her sick, grumpy, tired, or just plain strange.

3. Do research on what type of dog you think you'd enjoy. Go to your local pet store and browse books of different breeds. Some dogs will be extremely hyper and some aren't inclined to hyperactivity. If you have children, find out what breeds are good with kids. Some breeds are more prone to bite and you wouldn't want your little one to get hurt. The whole family should derive joy from the new doggie.

4. Some dogs will suffer anxiety attacks when left alone. That's normally the case, if the dog is kept inside the house. You can try to pair the nervous pup with another dog or you can research the different psychological information that's out on dogs. Most of the psychological information that's out there is provided by experts in the animal field. Just remember to be patient. The dog loves you and it only misses you.

5. If you ever decide to get rid of the dog for whatever reason, do not drop it off in the middle of the country. That's just wrong. Take it to the pound or give it to someone who would love to have canine companionship. Dumping animals is against the law in most places. I say most places, because I'm not a lawyer and I don't know the laws for every town. Just use good judgement when getting rid of any pet for whatever reason. If you give it to someone, explain to them why you're getting rid of the animal and do not make stuff up. If the dog is aggressive, let the new owner know.

Now, go find that perfect dog that's waiting for you!
