Walking for Weight Loss

I've been watching too much TV lately. I think am suffering from paid commercial overdose.

Everything from juicers and foodsavers to inflatable exercise equipment and treadmills have been on TV lately. Some of the stuff looks pretty good. However there are some things you can do to lose weight that will cost you nothing but a little effort.

One of the best things you can do is simply walk. That's right, walk. Walking has a lot of health benefits, including weight loss. Walking a mile will burn approximately 100 calories, depending on your present weight. For most folks, walking a mile is doable. Running or jogging a mile is a lot harder on the body.

Studies have recently shown that you don't even need to do all of your walking at once. If your goal is to walk 30 minutes a day, you can even break it down into 3 ten minute sessions.

That means you can even do it in front of the television while watching infomercials! I've even seen video tapes to walk away your poundage.

Here are a couple of ways to get started.

First, buy a pedometer, wear it wherever you go. The steps you take throughout the day count towards your weight loss goal. There is actually a program called 10,000 steps. The more steps you take, the more your body and waistline benefit.

Second, just get started. Go for a walk. If it's too hot or too cold outside, walk in place in front your television.

So what are you waiting for? Go outside for a walk, or turn on the TV and watch your favorite infomercial and start walking off those inches!
