Self Improvement and Why We Must Face and Overcome our Fears

One of the biggest reasons that many people struggle with self improvement and achieving happiness and success is because they have difficulty overcoming their fears.

Fears can take on many forms, and almost every one has fears of some sort. Many Fears may seem irrational to almost everyone but the person involved, and the most unlikely of people can be all but paralysed by the most improbable of fears.

Probably the most common fear that holds people back from success is the fear of failure. This can stop us from even trying something because we are so terrified of failing. Or, if we do try something, our deep-seated fear of failure can be so strong that we can almost guarantee an unsuccessful outcome to any endeavour.

Fear of rejection, and fear of disapproval and criticism, are other major inhibitors of progress. We can be so concerned that our friends, family or other people, will disapprove of our actions, or even condemn us for trying to do something above their expectations of us, that we can become paralysed and try nothing new. Fear of the unknown is another common limiting fear. Our comfort zones can seem so safe that trying something new may seem far too risky, even if we really know we need to move on from where we are now.

Almost all fears are learned, many when we are children and others through our life experiences. Many of us become convinced that taking risks is dangerous and we tend to take the safer option.

However, as fears are learned, with determination and effort, we can learn to overcome them and there is advice available from experts that can help with overcoming fears. With or without help, if we are committed to a better life, we need to face our fears. We must work at replacing them, in both our conscious and subconscious minds, with an iron willed determination and commitment to success. This will allow us to really experience self improvement and to make progress towards amore fulfilling lives.
