The Terrible Two's.
You have probably already heard about this stage when it comes
to a toddler especially if you have one yourself or if your
toddler is approaching this stage. Does this have you terrified?
You might not really know what the terrible two's are really all
about but you have heard that it is a horrible thing. This age
is a time a lot of first time parents especially, are not
looking forward to only because everybody around them is
constantly warning them about this stage in a toddlers life.
What is the terrible two's and should you really worry that much
about it? First of all, this stage in a toddler's life is not a
time when they all of a sudden turn into monsters and/or become
completely out of control. As far as you as a parent having to
worry about this stage is absolutely not necessary. The terrible
two's will come and go before you even know it and you may not
even notice any dramatic changes.
Another term for the terrible two's is growing up and
discovering themselves and their surroundings. This is the time
when they are able to get around on their own and they are
learning to talk. Your toddler will want to touch, feel and
experience everything around him/her which often can be a
nightmare for parents especially if you have a lot of valuable
stuff and /or things that can be dangerous for a child around
the house. If so you can never let your guard down and it will
seem like you are always chasing your child around the house
making sure they will not damage themselves or those things you
do not want them to touch.
This is one of the reasons you should child proof your house
before they reach this age because it might just drive you up
the wall having to run after your toddler all day long making
sure nothing happens. Slowly but surely they will learn what
they can do and what they can not but in the mean time many of
your valuables may get broken or even worse, they can hurt
themselves.
By taking some precautions many of these worries can easily be
eliminated and you will find that you can relax much more. You
see, the terrible two's does not have to be so terrible after
all. It is a natural thing which comes with no longer being a
baby and them wanting to learn what everything is and it is all
about how you as a parent handle it. Yes there is more to the
terrible two's than this and one of them is all the questions.
Get prepared to answer all the questions you could possible
imagine and then some. This is the age of questioning and is
another thing which becomes nerve wrecking to many parents.
Instead of letting it get to you just remember that without all
the questioning how do you expect them to learn. Make it fun,
both for you and for your toddler and all of this can be a
breeze. For a toddler anything can be made a game just figure
out how and before you know it the terrible two's will be over.
The terrible two's which may not be so terrible after all.
