Six Steps to Finding the Unique and Unusual Gift
Six Steps to Finding the Unique and Unusual Gift
The Christmas season is almost on us, and most of us would love
to have our presents seen as unique and unusual gifts. The
common and the mundane just won't cut it this year. This year is
going to be different! This Christmas you are going to make the
effort to give only unique and
unusual gifts.
Yeah, right.
If you're like many people, you start each year with the very
best intentions of giving unique and
unusual gifts -- then wind up at the last minute getting the
old tried and true. Well, stick with us and we will show you how
to find the unique and unusual gift that wows the recipient and
makes everyone else envious. Stick with us as we "Search for the
Unexpected" in unique and unusual gifts.
Step #1 is to avoid the stores that specialize in the ordinary.
You know the ones we mean -- the huge department stores where
nearly everyone shops. A unique and unusual gift won't be for
long as hordes of Christmas shoppers grab up these as Christmas
gifts of their own. Surprising how fast what you thought was
really a unique and unusual gift has turned into the drab and
ordinary.
Step #2 is to find out just what that person wanted as a kid and
never got. More than likely they still want it -- or something
very similar. Tuck that fact into the back of your mind, and
you're ready to start your search for the unique and unusual
gift.
Step #3 is to find a likely shop that features unique and
unusual gifts. An online shop makes it easier to shop through
many more items than would be possible in brick and mortar
stores. Makes it more likely you will find the unique and
unusual gift you want.
Step #4 is to take a deep breath and deliberately slow down the
shopping process to carefully examine items that might serve as
unique and unusual gifts Try to keep in mind that sometimes an
item that might be considered ordinary in its usual context is
much more exotic as a unique and unusual gift. Try to find
something the person would really like to have -- but would be
unlikely to buy for themselves. That's one thing that makes it a
unique and unusual gift.
Step #5 is to consider the potential unique and unusual gift as
a surprise element. Here, we are literally searching for the
unexpected. We want a unique and unusual gift that will both
delight and surprise the recipient. Here's where your own
creativity comes to mind. Put some thought in it. A unique and
unusual gift might be a monogrammed article of clothing, a book
autographed by the writer to the recipient, any other item that
features an imprint of the name or initials of the recipient. It
doesn't have to be personalized or expensive to be a unique and
unusual gift. But it does have to be unexpected.
Step #6 is the follow-up. Once you have the gift, instead of
using ordinary wrapping paper, use paper on which you have
written or drawn something meaningful to the recipient. Done
imaginatively this can add enormous appeal to the unique and
unusual gift over which you've labored so intensely.
So pay special attention to the wrapping. Make it invoke special
moments in his/her life -- the essence of the unique and unusual
gift. A personal story, a replica of school work done as a kid,
photocopies of a diploma or a birth announcement are all good
bets.
