How to save money on baby diapers
I think one of the most wasteful expenditure in taking care of
baby is the pampers.
A baby typically needs to change many times in a day because of
urinating or passing motion.
This is one of the heaviest expenditure in taking care of baby.
Here are some of my suggestions to minimize expenditure in this
area.
You can always choose cheaper brands but be beware they may not
hold the waste so well and lead to nappy rash.
Alternatively, you can use cloth diaper which was in use way
before disposable diapers were introduced to parents.
Cloth diaper can be used over and over again. So you save on
the cost of buying new disposable diapers.
However, you are burdened with more work of washing the cloth
diaper. You have to incur water and electricity charges to wash
it and sanitize it.
Disposable diapers are hygienic, clean, quick and convenient.
However, disposable diapers generate lots of waste material and
trash. If they are incinerated they will also generate pollution
and or more land is converted for use as landfill. They consume
resources such as wood, chemicals and oil base material. We need
to stay green and consume as little as possible .
What I did to minimize cost is to buy two different types of
disposable diapers. The cheap ones and the more expensive ones.
The cheap ones tend to tear easily or fall off the child's
bottom. I will let my child wear the cheap ones during the day.
During the night the child wears the better quality diaper which
can absorb a higher capacity of urine and doesn't come off so
easily.
Using this strategy , you save money by buying cheaper diapers.
Here are other suggestions. Observe the behavior of your child
closely . Recognize the signs when he is about to urine or
defecate . If the toddler is old enough to understand and
communicate with you , you can always teach him to tell you if
he needs to urine or pass motion. In that way , the disposable
diapers will not be soiled.
You can be proactive and teach the baby to urine or pass motion
in the potty in schedule times like after meals or before baths .
Also look out for disposable diapers
that can be refastened so that they can be used again. You can
take off the diaper for their bath time and put it on again
after a bath.
