Every New Mexican qualifies for the rebate except if you were not a resident as of December 31st, were a dependent of another taxpayer, or were an inmate of a public institution for more than six months. The amount of the rebate is dependent on your Adjusted Gross Income and the number of exemptions claimed on your tax return as shown in the table at http://www.dgoodmancpa.com/newmexicotaxrebate.htm If you filed your 2004 tax return, you should be receiving a check in the mail by the end of November, 2005. This process is automatic and you do not need to do anything in order to receive the check. If you did not file a 2004 tax return, you can claim the credit on your 2005 tax return which is due April 15, 2006.
