Mary Poppins

Mary Poppins is a musical masterpiece, a classic story that has won the hearts of millions of people. The Mary Poppins movie easlily sweeps it's audience, old and young alike, off into a fantasy existence, where real life intertwines with the magical, and anything can happen.

Mary Poppins began as a simple children's story by P.L. Travers. In 1964 Disney brought the story to the big screen, with Julie Andrews playing the title role of Mary Poppins, and Dick Van Dyke casted as the chimney sweep. The special effects Disney was able to put together were a work of genius. Filmed long before the era of digital capabilities, Mary Poppins mixed real-life footage with animation so flawlessly, that one wonders if the special effects may in fact have been magical, after all! The chimney sweeps appear to be actually dancing upon the rooftops of jolly old England, and the leaping carousal horses are an innocent childhood fantasy come true.

The basis of the Mary Poppins story is normal enough, a family in need of a nanny for their children, but it continues on in adventure and surprises galore. The music, the chum chum churees and the supercalifredgelisticexpiallidocus, are familiar everywhere. It's no wonder that after the 40 years that it's been around, Mary Poppins is still an all-time favorite!
