***Learn from Victor the Entrepreneaur***
Hi there - it's great to be back.
Didn't know I'd been away?
You didn't know because all of the last 4 bulletins were
pre-written and loaded to come out sequentially using one of the
many great features you get when you use SiteBuildIt! to build
your website..
The bulletins may have seemed a bit formal and tutorial so sorry
if that was the case. I thought the topic could be a bit of a
refresher, I certainly got something out of writing them for
you.
My wife Wendy and myself are just back from a holiday in Russia,
we had a great time. We flew to Moscow, spent a couple of day's
exploring, how it's changed since we were there 10 years ago. We
then flew down to Astrakhan and joined our River Cruiser for the
cruise back upto Moscow, 3,000 kilometers on the mighty Volga
River.
On the way we visited numerous interesting historically
important cities including Volgograd which as Stalingrad was the
scene of one of the defining battles of the Second World War.
Russia paid a heavy price in that war and I particularly wanted
to do that visit.
At another city, Kostroma I met Viktor the entrepreneaur.
There is some amazing art in many Russian churches but a
monastry can be a bit of a tourist trap. We had just visited the
Monastry which like many Russian churches is being brought back
into use. As we came out onto the street there was a line of
people trying to get us to buy their wares. You know the sot of
thing - hand made items ranging from shawls to carvings. We had
a cursory look and I came across Viktor.
He was displaying his oil paintings. Probably about 20 of them
depicting Russian folk scenes. He spoke English and explained
that they were his work and he needed to sell them. I have many
items in my office from places all over the world that I have
been fortunate to visit. So a small painting 8" by 6" would go
nicely with the collection and I bought a little oil on canvass
depicting some traditional Russian country cottages with the
monastry complete with onion domes in the background.
We rejoined our bus and moved onto the next part of our tour. A
visit to a local market. Very interesting, but what to me was
more interesting was as we came out of the market I spotted a
chap on a motor scooter who was so like Victor that I remarked
on it to Wendy. She replied "it's either him or his brother",
and he was speaking to our tour guide.
Perhaps your ahead of me but sure enough when we reached our
next stop Viktor was there with his paintings all set out. We
went for a walk about and when we got back to the bus I watched
with great fascination. Viktor the entrepreneaur had a captive
audience and made four more sales that I was able to count.
As soon as the bus started to move off he was seen gathering his
paintings together. Yes you've' got it! When we got back to the
ship he was by the gang plank. I don't know how many more sales
he made because I had a brief chat, complimented him on his
initiative, shook his hand and went for lunch. He will have made
more sales of that I'm sure.
So what has all this got to do with my business bulletin? Just
this. Analysts tell us that 60% of orders are secured after five
attempts at a close. Viktor the entrepreneaur got his paintings
in front of his targets at each opportunity and he made sales
each time. No one taught him that in the backwoods of Russia but
he had worked it out, took action and succeeded. I love it!
So think about what you are doing whether at work or in
business, get yourself and your abilities, products/services out
there with energy, honesty and enthusiasm to achieve your goals.
Ask for the promotion or order, 5 or more times if you have to,
just like my friend Viktor the entrepreneaur.
Tip Great men rejoice in adversity just as brave soldiers
triumph in war.
