Why Big Success Is Rare
You probably know that you have three ruthless enemies within
you who will do anything to sabotage your success. They are
doubt, fear, and uncertainty.
It is their job to stop you dead in your tracks. If you have a
vision, they will tear it up. If you have a passion, they will
mock it. And if you try to take action, they will help you fall
on your face.
Never ever underestimate these three villains. They will do
anything to keep you as mediocre as possible.
The minute you try and upset the status quo by daring to be
anything other than what you have always been, anything more
than merely average or even below average, they will spring into
action. Like trained killer Dobermans, they go straight for the
jugular vein. They are utterly without mercy.
This is the only reason why success is not for everyone. You
have to be a fierce warrior to overcome these three inner
demons. All the trial and tribulations you undergo when you dare
to do something is because these three sub-ego states are at war
within you.
The minute you even dare imagine that you might be better than
you are, they will ridicule you. They will immediately work on
cutting you down to size.
Now how they work is very subtle. They work as negative feelings
and low moods. You feel physically drained. You lack initiative.
You experience ennui and apathy. Your thoughts get sluggish.
They work with the stealth of skilled saboteurs.
Before you know it, you're back on the track...even if it
happens to be a rut that is draining you of vitality, happiness,
and dignity.
Few people achieve success in life--despite the abundance of
knowledge on how to do anything, despite the almost genius-level
capability of the subconscious mind, and despite the resilience
of the human body.
Now if this is not enough, you also have to contend with the
doubt, fear, and uncertainty of everyone who knows you. You are
upsetting their reality by daring to be different. This is why
people who go to motivational seminars soon lose all their gains
within a few short weeks.
Between the internal nay-sayers and the external ones most
people look on their first few failures at anything as a sign to
stop.
But there is no way that you can succeed initially. You just
don't know enough. And you just don't have enough experience.
You have to fail your way to success. There is no other path.
Even this simple page is a threat to you. Your three villains
will convince you that you just don't have the time, the money,
or even the ability to follow through on anything that is said
here. You will find it easier to not read these letters than to
read them.
Nothing is more enticing that postponing success and avoiding
anything that might bring you closer to it.
Some people are so numbed out and so beaten down by doubt, fear,
and uncertainty that they can't even begin to envision a dream
for themselves. When you ask them what they want from life, they
can't even answer.
If you want to succeed in your life, you have to declare a
total war.
You have to overcome the mood swings that will first show up.
And if that doesn't stop you, then you have to overcome all your
bitter memories of failure.
And if you still keep going, then you have to ward off everyone
else's disapproval of you.
And if you're still on your feet, then you have to deal with
your sudden high failure rate as you try and master something
new and different.
It takes a high level of mastery to excel. It's much easier to
avoid the whole issue.
But if you can make it past all these obstacles, then, you'll be
as rich, as famous, as learned, or as powerful as your heart's
desire.
On the journey to success, the will to failure is initially much
stronger than the will to success. It is like the gravitational
field that exerts tremendous pressure on a rocket to stay
earthbound. Only an opposing force of heat and energy can lift
the rocket to fly free to the stars to explore brave new worlds.
Anyone who is a success in life is truly a hero in the finest
sense of that word. He or she is the personification of
greatness of character. It is an awesome feat to rise above
mediocrity.
