Surrender, if you wish to conquer
Yes, this statement is probably a prototype for a paradox. But
that is what spirituality is all about: truths disguised as
mind-squeezing paradoxes. If you wish to take charge of your
life, you'd better surrender control. Why? Because there are
forces operating in dimensions different than yours, which can
see things in a broader perspective. Your ego is like a stubborn
kid, which likes to control everything, and then sit down to cry
when things don't work out. But your ego usually fails to
understand that the higher forces want nothing but your own
good. The moment you surrender control to the spirits and just
"let go", the stalling airplane of your life starts to regain
poise.
Dr. Joe Vitale puts it like this in "Spiritual Marketing":
"What I discovered was that we have at least two distinct beings
within us, not personalities so much as aspects of our mind.
Gallwey called it Self One and Self Two. Self One can be likened
to your ego, the part of you that wants to control. Self Two can
be likened to the inner master within you, the part of you that
is connected to all things. The job of Self One is to select
what you want and let go. The job of Self Two is to bring it to
you. Gallwey learned that when people learned to let go and
trust, they got what they wanted more often than not, and it
came much easier than if they fought for it."
John Harricharan presents a similar notion in "When You Can Walk
on Water, Take The Boat":
"Why struggle? A seasoned swimmer does not struggle against the
water. He flows with it, using it as a means of reaching his
goal. Don't struggle, just follow the flow. Let the river of
life carry you."
In "Morning Has Been All Night Coming", Harricharan says:
"That's the secret to solving problems. Remove your focus, your
concentration, and the matter is free to fix itself. The result
is sometimes astonishing." [How much I love to quote other
writers! **wink**]
By the way, if that stubborn child called your "ego" is not
comfortable with the word "surrender", try substituting the word
with "delegate". That should calm down the unhappy kid.
So, when you surrender (or delegate) control to the forces
unseen, not just are things taken care of more efficiently, but
you feel freer, and more relaxed too. Living passionately in the
present moment is essential for you to realize your powers as a
human being. And that can only be accomplished when you are free
of all worries. Yes, life always has some challenges for you to
overcome, but that should not be an excuse for not enjoying the
bounties of life. Looking at the bigger picture, it is more
important to conquer life as a whole than fretting over
relatively meager issues such as paying the bills. Let the
unseen forces of the world do you a couple of favors; they
actually look forward to it. And while you are at it, I assure
you, and wish you, a rich, fulfilled and happy life.
Again, to quote the great John Harricharan,
"People are so busy trying to make a living that they have no
time to make a life."
