Great Tips for Smokers Who Want to Quit
Those of us who've never smoked tend to, without meaning to,
underestimate the difficulty of quitting. We see the health
threat for the smoker (as well as those around him/her), and
just assume that anyone who cared about their own health would
stop doing something that's so unhealthy. What we fail to
realize is the physical and psychological toll that it takes to
part ways with this particular habit.
For the smoker it comes down to a choice between health and
habit. Do they endure a short period of unpleasantness now or do
they choose a long period of misery later?
The U.S. Surgeon General provides the following great tips for
all the smokers who have made the right choice:
Drink lots of liquids, especially water.
Avoid sugar and fatty foods, and don't skip meals.
Exercise regularly and moderately.
Get more sleep.
Take deep breaths when cravings hit.
Change your habits. For example, eat breakfast in a different
place, or take a different route to work.
Do something to reduce your stress. Take a hot bath, read a
book, or exercise.
If you're one of the brave people who is trying to quit
smoking, write down the above tips and live them out. Don't give
up. Ever. When you feel weak, tell yourself that you're going to
win this one! I know you will!
