Different types of temperature monitoring systems

Modern temperature monitoring systems are used to observe and react to temperature conditions in manufacturing, storage, transportation, medical fields, and scientific applications. Many different types of temperature monitoring systems exist today. Some of them are very rugged being intended for outdoors unattended use. Some of very small, for use in transportation of perishable goods. Others feature dozens of probes which can be positioned in many different areas to not only collect data but to compare and triggers events. Some temperature monitoring systems use the older mechanical chart recorders and others use the newer electronic data loggers. No one temperature monitoring system is right for all applications and uses. Careful attention must be paid to the applicability of the system, the ongoing expenses as well as the functionality and original cost of the system. One of the newer entries into the temperature monitoring systems arena is the ThermaViewer. It is completely electronic and particularly well suited to situations where it is important that many people be made aware of the current and previous temperatures. For example, in a commercial kitchen the ThermaViewer is used to monitor a refrigerator and a freezer where food is stored to insure that it continues to be stored at safe temperatures. The display portion of the ThermaViewer is mounted on the wall in the kitchen area where every employee can see it. This insures that not only will each employee be aware of the temperature at all times, thus making each one a part of the quality control, but it also raises the overall awareness of the importance of temperature in the food storage process. There have been cases where the employee moping the floor mentions to the kitchen manager that the temperature chart looks 'funny'. When the kitchen manger looks at the chart he has seen that indeed the refrigerator has not been maintaining proper temperature. In some cases this has prevented a large expense of replacing thawed food and many man-hours of moving food to a safer storage unit.
