Let Your Cares Slip Away In The Beautiful Gardens Beside the main house is a wonderful Garden Suite, with private access to the gardens, which we especially enjoyed on the warm Indiana evenings. The intimate setting of the beautiful gardens is often rented for outdoor events and receptions. As a gardener, I appreciated the hard work and care it took to groom the garden filled with native Indiana plants, blooms of all colors, and lovely walking paths. Out & About In Centerville The gardens are lit with delicate lights at night and so peaceful you would never know the Historic Lantz House Inn sits along a National Road. Its location in Centerville is close enough to area shopping, dining, and attractions, yet remains as a peaceful piece of paradise away from heavy traffic. Just down the block are several choices for dining like the Palais Royal Cafe and Jags Cafe, plus antique and unique little shops to explore like the Candy Jar, where we found tasty Fudge and Carmel Corn. A short drive around the corner and you'll find the Centerville Farmer's Market where there's a wonderful selection of fresh produce and local Amish products. Arts, Antiques & Warm Glow Candles Just down the road from the Historic Lantz House Inn is Scott Shafer's Stoneware, offering a unique array of handmade stoneware for everyday use created onsite by Scott Shafer in his Centerville Studio. Drive a bit further from Scoot Shafer Stoneware and you'll find Webb's Antique Mall, one of the largest in the country. From antiques to the unusual, there's plenty of unique items to browse in this Antique Mall. For those who love Antiquing you'll enjoy traveling throughout Wayne County to explore Antique Alley. While on the road we often pick up special gifts for family and friends. We found just the right gifts at the Warm Glow Candle Co. Outlet Store just a short drive from Webb's Antique's. They can also make special baskets filled with wonderfully scented candles and accessories. For more unique works of art visit Scott Shafer Stoneware in Centerville, Indiana Scott Schaffer creates wonderful stoneware you can use everyday in his personal studio located just blocks from Downtown Centerville. On our visit he was more than happy to share tales of what inspires his creativity and give us a tour of his studio. You'll find a variety of pitchers, teapots, and earthen dishes, and perhaps there's also something new to discover on each visit to Scott Shafer's Stoneware at 610 N. A-Mazing, The Dougherty Family Orchard Gather up the kids and head over the the Dougherty Family Orchard for a season of picking and stop by the Petting Zoo. The Dougherty family recognized the importance of creating family setting with activities that benefit the entire family. Their daughters and son, Ty, who continue in their parent's footsteps, have inherited this dedication. The orchard is a place where families can pick apples together or feed a number of exotic animals in addition to those found on a farm. Families can also laugh themselves silly while trying to find their way out of the famous McMaze. The Dougherty's received national recognition when they created a maze in the likeness of Hoosier, David Letterman, who featured their maze on the Late Show. The Dougherty Orchards is located at 1117 Dougherty Road near Cambridge City, in east central Indiana, just four miles off of Interstate 70 about an hours drive from Indianapolis, Muncie, Anderson, and Dayton, Ohio.
