Barbie, Barbie Doll, Barbie Magic of Pegasus, Barbie Princess -
Originals or Bratz Replicates?
This article will explore the stages of transition that the
Barbie doll has gone through from yesteryear to today. Barbie is
a renowned name the world over and comes in many styles and
forms. For years Barbie has been the number one toy for girls
and is still a strong contender in the toy market today.
The introduction of the fantastic Bratz dolls has however meant
serious competition for the Barbie brand.
Bratz come in several lines such as Bratz Rock Angelz, Bratz Ooh
La La, Bratz Midnight Dance, Bratz Step Out, Bratz Wild Wild
West, Bratz Pretty n Punk, Bratz Babyz and Bratz Big Babyz.
These are amongst just a few fantastic lines that are available
in toy stores today. Lil Bratz are also a sub line of the main
Bratz brand which are meant to target the 6 and under category
of children. Bratz have been created in various styles and
fashions and are aimed towards all ethnic groups.
Traditionally Barbie was not ethnically oriented but the last
few years as seen a sudden move towards this. Could this be a
way of combating brand Bratz who have threatened to take over
brand Barbie as the number one girls toy?
Last year saw the introduction of Barbie Princess and the Pauper
as the main Christmas toy. Barbie Princess and the Pauper
Anneliesse and Barbie Princess and the Pauper Erika were highly
popular but will they be as popular as this years new Barbie
range Barbie and The Magic of Pegasus (Barbie Magic of Pegasus).
This years fantastic selection of Barbie Magic of Pegasus
includes Barbie magic of Pegasus Annika (Annika), Barbie Magic
of Pegasus Cloud Queen Rayla (Rayla), Barbie Magic of Pegasus
Prince Aidan (Aidan) and Barbie Magic of Pegasus Flying Horse
Brietta (Brietta).
Does anybody see the similarities between this years Barbie
range and last years Barbie range? Is it just a coincidence that
Princess Anneliesse from last year is now Princess Annika,
Pauper Erika is now Cloud Queen Rayla and King Dominic/Julian is
now Prince Aidan. They also look pretty similar too!
This is not to say that the new range is not fantastic because
it is but maybe this explains the sudden interest in something
new for children such as the new Bratz dolls which are exciting
and different and not scared of causing controversy.
Maybe our children need toys that reflect the times and do not
send us back to our past. Barbie maybe correct in trying to try
a few different styles in order to compete with Bratz but
diversification may be in order.
