What Is Speed Dating?
Speed dating, as the name suggests, is a fast, organized dating
scheme, set up for the purposes of making new friends or finding
that ideal romantic partner. Speed dating usually occurs as a
party, where a selection of men and women, usually around 30,
meet and chat for about 8 minutes before they are rotated to the
next person. Once all potential partners have met one another,
they submit a list of the people they'd like to see again. The
organizers then check for matches and those who have chosen each
other are put into contact.
Speed dating is based on the idea that first impressions are
usually permanent impressions. With this in mind, speed dating
organizers believe that 8 minutes is all one needs to determine
whether they make a good match or not. Speed dating parties, are
basically formal matchmaking parties. Matchmaking parties have
always been around in social circles in one form or another.
Some say that speed dating is a shallow pursuit that doesn't
really allow people to get to know each other at a deeper level.
For these people, the source of a good and long-lasting
relationship, is found in the slow and patient getting-to-know
another person. But for those in the dating game, the ease of
speed dating parties puts the pressure off trying to sustain a
bad date. At a speed dating gathering, there is no pressure to
perform past those quick 8 minutes.
Whatever the pros and cons, speed dating is the latest
matchmaking craze. It is fun and totally safe. Speed dating
parties are normally held in stylish venues, where people can
dress up, have fun and get to know each other in a warm and
comfortable atmosphere.
