Feng Shui Lighting
Feng Shui kitchen lighting is based on a traditional triangle
model with the refrigerator, sink, and range making up each
point of the triangle. There should be a 6 to 8 foot distance
between each appliance that will allow you to move freely for
maximum convenience and a minimum of repeated moves. Fluorescent
lights do not promote good health as they are constantly
flickering. This can cause eyestrain and headaches. If you
decide to use this type of light in your kitchen, remember use
the full-spectrum bulbs. They are a lot easier on your family's
eyesight.
With Feng Shui, you will enjoy the extra space between your
major appliances and it should be easy to adhere to it's basic
principle of having fire elements such as the microwave and
stove separated from water elements such as the dishwasher, sink
or refrigerator. You can separate this by something made of wood
or by something that represents wood such as a plant or the
painting of a plant. The stove plays a pivotal role in Feng Shui
lighting design. It represents health and wealth and you want to
ensure that you use burners on the stove top equally, and
rotating them regularly rather than using a particular burner as
this represents getting money from multiple sources. The older
type of stove design is preferred because it is more in keeping
with the Feng Shui belief that we should slow down and become
more conscious of each activity as well as doing activities with
intention. Since many Feng Shui practioners are concerned with
excess radiation and electromagnetic fields, they prefer the
microwave not be used at all. It is obvious though that each
home will find it's own balance when it comes to Feng Shui
practices.
Remember with this unique design, the kitchen should always be
neat and uncluttered and any appliances that are broken should
be tossed out. In some cases, especially in New York, some
building code regulations actually reflect good Feng Shui
principles as it is illegal to place a window over the stove.
Feng Shui believes that windows should not be placed over any
type of stove because the heat represents prosperity, and after
all, you don't need this flowing out the window! Remember, Feng
Shui isn't only about having a room with good chi or energy, it
is a practical guide for design. Feng Shui can be applied to any
style of room. Feng Shui trends represent a look of contemporary
with solid colors and wood grains, an opulent look with
carvings, cabinets with legs, and on corbels, or even a simple
shaker style. Have fun and combine these styles to create your
Feng Shui masterpiece in your home today!
